OUR JOURNEY

Founded in 2020, Ming and her partner started Ming Ming’s Kitchen as they explored a delicious journey. Ming Ming’s Kitchen brings a new taste and vibe from Northern Vietnamese cuisine. All the food was inspired by their families’ love for cooking and entertaining when they were growing up in Hanoi. With some fusion design to highlight locally sourced produce, the food at Mingming’s has made a twist not just to keep all the best flavours from Vietnamese cuisine but also to match Australian taste.

Minh Trang Tran came to Australia as an overseas student and, after completing a Bachelor of Business and Hotel Management in Melbourne, settled in Brisbane to make her home. She and her partner founded Ming Ming’s Kitchen in 2020 when Ming was just 23 years old. Despite battling much turbulence – Covid-19, Brisbane floods, obtaining permanent residency and falling pregnant with twins – within six months of opening the restaurant was ranked the seventh best Vietnamese restaurant in Brisbane by The Courier-Mail. Unlike many Vietnamese restaurants in Brisbane, Ming Ming’s Kitchen serves Northern-style Vietnamese food, drawn from the recipes of Ming’s grandmother, mother and aunties. With her food and the ‘unique and funky’ vibes of Ming Ming’s Kitchen, Ming seeks to challenge and expand Brisbane’s conceptions of Vietnamese cuisine and culture.

Ming Ming’s Kitchen offers a selection of banquets to cater to most hunger levels. The signature Ming Ming’s Goodies banquet ($55 per person) includes steamed wontons, seafood spring rolls, slow-cooked pork belly, salmon teriyaki and Vietnamese doughnuts. There’s also a snack-heavy set menu going for $45 per person boasting prawn toast, lemongrass-beef rice-paper rolls, pork spring rolls, steamed buns, fried chicken and tempura cauliflower.
